Different Senses, Different Metaphors for Emotions
Visual, auditory and vibrational approaches bias cognition, social interaction and movement. Different sensorial strategies might also bias us towards different emotional regulation.
The visual, egocentric, dualistic architecture supports the idea of setting up boundaries.
By contrast, from a vibrational perspective, a boundary might actually make things worse–trying to resist a vibration with a boundary is futile and frustrating. Instead, it might make more sense to let a vibration pass through rather than blocking it.
From a Feldenkrais perspective, it is all about expanding the repertoire, but this time the repertoire of how you process the data about your world. Don't just look at the frying pan, listen to the sizzle. Don't just draw your psychological strategies from the visual field, borrow from vibration or sound. Find yourself in time instead of space. Try knowing the world and its people from profoundly different perspectives, to the point where even the word 'perspective' is recognized for the bias it is.
