When Your Body Hijacks Its Own Signals
You've been taught not to listen to your fear, but you desperately need to pee, so you get up and leave the room. Was your bladder actually full? Or did your organism just route an urgent message through whatever channel consciousness hadn't fully suppressed? You're exhausted beyond measure, trying to push through on a project, and suddenly you can't find your notes. Maybe that's your system screaming STOP through the only pathway available. These are examples of what I think of as signal hijacking. When direct channels are chronically ignored, your organism might start lying through whatever signals are still open. Various rescues and counter-rescues pile up, and the interoceptive signals become tangled. The more suppression, the more irrational the routing, the more expensive the tangles.
