Sound Arrives All at Once

When Aboriginal people talk about the didgeridoo's vibrations, or when Sufi musicians describe sound elevating the soul, they're not (just) being poetic. They're describing what happens when you stop enforcing a boundary between "you" and "the vibration." Sound doesn't respect the borders we try to draw. It goes through walls, through your skin, through bone. You can feel bass in your chest not because it's "entering" you but because your chest is vibrating at the same frequency. The distinction between internal and external collapses. You're not separate from the sound; you're part of what's resonating.
