Four Phases of Awareness

If you want to differentiate not just your muscles but your actual mental frame of reference – like whether you're using visual processing or auditory processing for a task – awareness is the key. It is helpful to approach awareness in four distinct flavors: recognition (noticing and feeling what you've been doing all along); attribution (catching what system is working right now, in real time); expansion (developing the capacity once you can name it); and tempering (the reorganization that happens after you've played with alternatives).

Celebration ought to be in there somewhere, too!
