Neuroplasticity and Brain-Fluffling Your Senses
One way to foster cognitive resilience is to get to an outcome in different ways: take a different path to the grocery store or use the new type of drill or make a french seam instead of whatever a normal seam is called. Ok. But we could be much more ambitious than that! How about favoring different senses? Are you, like most of us in this culture, visually oriented? Then favor a different sense as you walk or do woodwork or cook dinner or listen to music. Or better yet, appreciate how you are already using, say, sound. Touch. The feel of the wind on your arm hairs.
The more neglected a sense is – the less used, or perhaps the less appreciated for how it is used – the more intriguing it is to focus on it, and notice how you use it. The brain-fluffle itself is (usually) pleasing, as you open yourself to a new/old experience of your world.
