My Theories About Awareness and Consciousness
In trying to make sense of my experience and observation of Feldenkrais's effectiveness, I built a vocabulary about 'awareness' and 'consciousness,' referring to these two words as 'colloquial', because I'm a lot more interested in what people mean when they use the words than I am in a philosophical debate. My theory holds together pretty well. It is interesting. It is my subtext when I design a lesson, so that makes it useful. And it is consistent with the facts about interoception as we know them. But it isn't necessarily true. It is a hypothesis. It is another story for science to tell or not tell. And if it becomes an accepted story, that means someone, someday, will need to tip it over and improve on it. But for now, here it is, good enough to be ruminated upon.
