Two Versions of Consciousness

There is a side of consciousness that is good at will and ambition, that is self-delusional and egotistical, and also logical and hep to symbolic thinking. All these have a know-that-you-know-it aspect. This consciousness is comfortable with hierarchy and control, even if it actually only has the delusion of hierarchy and control. Consciousness might be especially good in a crisis. Another gift of consciousness is creativity. Novelty. Ass-over-teakettling. And, yes, collaboration. In Feldenkrais, it's not that we want to keep consciousness out, but that we want the less stressed, less delusional, less habit-clutching aspect of consciousness, which welcomes the information from awareness and adds its own unique spice of insight. This is one reason we ask you to do these movements without (much) ambition.
