Feldenkrais Differentiation
Feldenkraisian 'differentiation' is a key design approach: take two movements that are typically coupled (like squinching your eyes when you do long division in your head), uncouple them, and then let them go back together again (or notice that they don't need to come together again). Turn your head when your eyes dart to the side. Tuck your pelvis when you swallow. Whatever. Take the two movements apart, dust them off, put them back together (or not). You'll move better even if you go back to the original pattern, but you may find that you spontaneously organize yourself differently or, more likely, that you simply have a wider repertoire. Sometimes it is effective to entrain one movement with another, sometimes it's effective to entrain them cattywampus, and sometimes it is best to leave them completely uncoupled. To have such a wider repertoire is to be amazingly effective.
