Self-Image and Habits
When your system decides what not to pay attention to, that's a form of triage. The stuff it already knows well? Just take a sip. The stuff that chronically hurts? Squash. Impossible stuff? Ignore.
And your self-image can be the way you decide what's impossible. You forgot you have a clavicle so using your clavicle in concert with your shoulder-blade isn't possible. You were taught there's only one good way to breathe so varying breath according to context isn't possible. You can't get off the floor like a Tic-Tock ballerina so you stop getting down onto the floor at all.
Altering your self-image forces novelty on your habits: you have a clavicle (now what?), you have more than one diaphragm (address them), here's a playful way of thinking about getting on and off the floor (could it be fun?). Novelty is a cure for rutted habits.
