Ease in the Lumbar — not your Usual PT
To give your lumbar a break, think about having an open, spacious hip joint or two.
When you run your finger down your torso in a straight line to the front top of your thigh, and you cross the line from torso-ness to thigh-ness, does that area feel soft and spacious and ready and available? Or tight? Does the joint feel jammed, or loose? To 'open the front of the hip' helps the lumbar, and that in turn is really about lengthening the front of the body: knee to hip joint to chest to head. Or maybe another way to say this is that if your hips are already jammed, and a need for hip action comes up, the hip has nothing left to offer. And if the hip is 'spent' from a kinesthetic perspective then the lumbar is going to have to take care of the crisis on its own. Again and again.
