Feldenkrais, Vision and Dementia

When I first heard of the loss of peripheral vision in dementia, I certainly wondered about Feldenkrais eye variations having the potential to slow or even forestay dementia. I also wanted to be sensitive about teaching the eye variations to an older population: go gently. A student who is also a gerontologist suggested that Feldenkrais might be something that care partners and people living with dementia could do together, either mirroring or touching, almost like a mini Functional Integration. The 'don't demonstrate' aspect of Feldenkrais needs to be revisited. Just as there might be ways to 'go peripheral' in mood without engaging actual vision, it might be possible to get at some of the benefits of 'not demonstrating' but include some demonstration in strategic ways. The peripheral vision issues raise possibilites as well as special design needs.
