Visual Apparatus, Eyes and Brain, Obscure to Awake

With your eyes, you can point in a certain direction or focus to a given depth using your muscles. But you can also assign a different level of attention to certain targets, leaving your eyes still and 'focusing' mentally. Whether the visual enhancement comes from muscular organization or mental organization, there's a range from conscious to aware to oblivious. Some of Feldenkrais's most potent tricks have to do with taking the entire visual apparatus—the eye and the brain—through that range from opaque to aware. Teasing around with visual processing and ocular musculature is a classic Feldenkrais move. What's interesting is that these eye lessons can also release something in the rest of the body.
