Peripheral Gaze is that Comprehensive Look
'Peripheral' means something related to, located in an outer boundary. But 'peripheral gaze' has an even more specific meaning. It is not 'are you looking to the left and right, up and down?' Because you could do that by darting your eyes—swiveling them—left and right, up and down. That's a foveal gaze being moved from here to there. A peripheral gaze is when you cast your eyes in one direction—say, forward—while shifting your visual attention to the left and right, up and down. What's forward uses the cones at the back of your eyeball. What's to the side uses more the rods that are spread around more evenly on the inside of your eye.
