The Busy Foveal Gaze, Mistaken for Peripheral

Don't confuse a very busy foveal gaze with a peripheral gaze—among other things, they have very different mood signatures. Situational awareness can have you darting your eyes left and right—saccades—so that you're doing a sequence of foveal tracking across a wide field. By contrast, in a true peripheral gaze you keep simultaneous awareness of your whole field without any specific, precise observation.
