Following the Line of Pleasure Is Easier Than Doing Trigonometry
It isn't easy to be thinking about the correct placement of your foot or the proper arch of your back. But following the pleasure, the ease of a movement—most people can do that. Using the line of pleasure as a guide, my EDS client was able to walk for miles on the beach—not necessarily something I would have recommended, but he was right and I would have been wrong. And he got the layers—the intrinsic pleasure of finding his intrinsic pleasure. The reward of feeling good at the end of the walk. The trust. And this is an attractor, right? Together we created, and he expanded on, a positive reinforcing cycle—find the ease, cultivate the ease, trust yourself more, find the ease more easily, etc. Did I cure his EDS (Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome)? Heck no. That was never in my thoughts... I didn't fix him. But Feldenkrais did give him a great learning, and since he is a very smart guy he set himself up to continue to reinforce that 'attraction.' He didn't just learn, he created a structure for himself that would continue to feed into the attractor he wanted.
