Pain, Hysteresis and Attractors in Complex Adaptive Systems

In the hysteresis model, you have two attractors: the pre-injury you (which is not necessarily perfect but probably pretty nice) and the post-injury you (which is suffering and can't find its way back). They are both stuck places; it is just that you like one of them better than the other one. It took a broken leg to pop you out of the stuck place of 'original me' but it is going to take something much more powerful to pop you back. BUT. It is much more accurate, and maybe productive, to think beyond those two choices to a multitude of possible attractors—places that pull you forward for good or ill—and of course, influence yourself to the good ones. So then the question is—can you influence that pull? Can you get yourself out of the hole of immune-flare-ups, inflammation and whacked out pain sensors and into the hole—yes, in its own way it is still a hole—of easy joints and smooth movements? Temperate emotions and reasonable cognition? Happy feet and soft tongue? I think this is much more likely, actually, than going back to a previous state. And you could be the architect of that.
