Feldenkrais Is a Good Interoception Gym
Over time, with Feldenkrais, you'll develop a greater awareness of your body and how it moves. (Do I wish there were decent research of this? Yes.) My first time wiggling a client's toe, most only feel it in their toe and no further. After some lessons, they can feel the toe up to the place where the tibia and fibula meet underneath the knee. They remember they have clavicles. They can tell what part of their spine is rotating most or least, or how the ball of the hip moves inside the socket. And this makes a difference to balance, efficiency, ease... Feldenkrais builds your interoceptive skills just as learning to read braille would enhance your sense of touch in the pads of your fingers. When you are injured—whether from an accident, wear-and-tear, or disuse—paying attention in the slow, gentle Feldenkrais way can—I believe—repair and refresh and reset the interoceptive signals and their integration.
