Injury Messes Up How You Decide How You Feel
This whole navigation site is really about how you feel and know and understand yourself from the inside. But I never said that interoception is perfect. The data can be wrong or missing and the organismic assessment of the integrated data can be out of whack. We predict and prescribe for ourselves wrongly or we allocate resources unwisely or we just don't have enough to go around. We get stuck in habits. We check out. Injuries accumulate and so do their less visible, long-lasting effects. One of the most tricky 'out of whacknesses' is how we perceive pain, and where we draw the threshold of 'uh-oh this is too much.' That changes after injury, and not always for the wiser. It is possible that part of the reset that is so important to Feldenkrais might be this: the ability to let go of pain-induced (or neglect-induced) distortions in how we sense.
[the arc of all the ways interoception and organismic integration/resolution can go wrong, and what Feldenkrais might or might not be able to do about it—very much about the not-fixing. PP goes here!!!]
