There Is a Range of What You Can Influence Within Yourself
If you can feel something, you can probably influence it, in a learning forward kind of way. Can you influence your metabolic rate? Monks or athletes may be able to do this; it takes a lot of skill. Can you influence the tension in your jaw? Yes, of course, but maybe not always. In theory, if you can feel (at some level) your bone density, can you influence the recruitment of your bone densifiers? Mhhhmmmmm…. < sound of skeptical, reluctant consideration > Can you change your heart rate? Yes! Can you alter your brain waves? Yes, in so many, many ways. Can you reorganize your movements? Oh yeah. Not the one you already started, but maybe the next one or the one after that. The old notions of 'voluntary' and 'autonomous' don't make sense any more — every process lies in a highly variable range of sensitivity and influenceability, every person is different, and every moment is different.
