Really? The Texture of the Water in Me Correlates with the Water I'm Paddling?
Oh duck me. What does 'really' mean? "Really — would a tensometer find a correlation between the 'texture' of the lake water and the texture of the Carie-water?" I think medically and physics-wise this is correct. Yes, as you 'tense' the water with your strong stroke to give yourself something to push off of, you also tense the water in you. More importantly, sensorially speaking, feeling that connection is correct for me and it is up to you to figure out whether it is correct for you. Instead of the 'really?' question, ask: is the idea of the 'texture of the water' useful? ('Is it intrinsically pleasurable?' is also a good one.) By 'useful' I mostly mean—does it make you a better paddler? Does it help you organize yourself better? Can you paddle longer and faster, or slower and with more finesse—whatever you want? 'Useful' is the groundwire. Good articles I can cite from pubmed are also of value! But IMO the articles with their tensometers are the proxies. A sensorial richness that leads to better paddling is the 'reality.' But then I am a crude empiricist.
