Organismic: How We Peg Our Current Condition
In an organismic system like yours, sensory information comes together in a wild way: sight, sound, vibration, tilt, temperature, tone/tension, heart-rate, gut clench, bladder pressure... dozens of sensorial streams for knowing what's going on inside and outside. We take that information, in a constantly updating loop, and weave it together to come up with some conclusions about our condition in the world—'I'm hot' or 'our bone density is low' or 'that hurts.' Even something as simple as 'hot' is a weave of a lot of senses, not just your temperature but your fatigue, the humidity, your state of hydration, the time of day.... And 'pain' or 'bone density' are even more layered. So just checking in on your status, inside yourself and in relation to the world, is like a constant slightly chaotic scramble that is continually popping up status alerts that then get reconsidered and reevaluated and reset over and over and over again. And there is a certain pleasure in that.
