What Gets Left Outside the Cage

Imagine Descartes sitting at his desk. There is a cage around him, and he seems totally unaware of the animals (real and imaginary) trying to pass through the cage's mesh – and some fit through, but others don't. The cage's mesh is the test: can it be verified? There are a lot of creatures that make it through, and they'll make it into his thinking and his books. But there are also many that bounce off the mesh. They just don't fit through the holes. These don't get counted. But they don’t even get to the level of being acknowledged as not counted – their poor little stiff bodies just lying on the other side of the mesh.

He just made them not-eligible.

After a few generations, we started to equate not-eligible with 'not true.' The cage became the world.
