Eliminating What Can't be Verified
What if the most interesting and important issues are, by their nature, hard for us to verify, either with the tools we have or maybe at all ever? It would be weird to just toss out all that stuff, to skew our world only in favor of the verifiable. Ponder all the patterns that weren't verifiable for a while – for instance, electricity – until someone came along with a clever key and a kite string. But on the other hand, if we're going to be using ideas that aren't verifiable (yet), how do we do that sensibly?
Because I am a crude empiricist, I fall back on what is useful, and one thing that’s useful is having a body along with a bumbly, bruisy, appetite-inducing world to live in – one which is also delightful, pleasing and intriguing. A part of the Feldenkraisian approach is to hone one's attention to outside and inside stimuli – to enrich the feedback loops. So, for what cannot be verified, it is helpful to see whether it is useful and, if possible, to use one's own somatic senses to ground those ideas. Subjective data are still data.
